Thriving as a Scanner and Multipotentialite – My Talk at Dare to Soar Telesummit 2025

If you’re a Scanner or a Multipotentialite, you’ve probably heard that you should ‚just pick one thing and stick to it.‘ But what if embracing multiple passions is the real key to success? That’s exactly what I’ll be talking about at the Dare to Soar Telesummit 2025 – and in this blog post, I’ll share why thriving with many interests is not only possible but an advantage!

On Saturday, February 8th, I’m honored to be speaking at the Barbara Sher Dare to Soar Telesummit, a free online event filled with mini-workshops, inspiration, and opportunities for creative minds, writers, and multipotentialites.

✨ What Does It Mean to Thrive as a Scanner and Multipotentialite?

I’ll be speaking about thriving as a Scanner—a term Barbara Sher used for people with many interests and an insatiable curiosity. Barbara spent her life championing Scanners and showing them how to embrace their many passions rather than feeling guilty about them.

One day in April 2009, I stumbled upon Barbara Sher’s book Refuse to Choose and experienced an instant awakening: having too many interests was a thing?! At last, everything started to make sense, and a new chapter of exploration and joy began.

Over the following years, I delighted in writing my ideas down in a Scanner Daybook, joined Barbara Sher’s Hanging Out program for two enriching years, completed ALL the exercises during a Refuse to Choose book club led by the wonderful Patty Newbold, and later embarked on the year-long WriteSpeak writing course.

Along the way, I thrived in the company of inspiring, like-minded individuals, while embracing my many talents and interests.

Fast forward 15 years: over 50 Scanner Daybooks filled, countless songs and articles written, paintings created, art classes attended, and courses of all kinds explored.

In my talk, „A Scanner’s Tale: Thriving as a Multipotentialite,“ I’ll share my life-long journey as a Scanner and how I’ve learned to cultivate creativity, balance multiple projects, and build a life that honors curiosity instead of fighting it. Whether you’re a lifelong learner, a creative soul, or someone who simply wants to do it all, this talk is for you!
